Can I find work in another country?

After you have become a registered member, you will have access to our matching system that allows you to pick the country and city you would like to work in and change your business address to this new location (simply the country and city will do until you get there to enter your new complete address).  The automated matching service will start working for you right away locating clients for you to teach; then earn your way to the countries of your choosing with your earned income.  It’s that simple; simply by changing your business address, you have created an opportunity to teach and travel all over the world.

Is there anything I should do before going to another country to live or to teach?

It is important of course to research any countries you may plan to travel to, in advance.  Laws regulating employment and teaching vary from country to country.  It would be wise to familiarize yourself with the laws that regulate employment in the country or countries you are considering traveling to, and teaching in.  For example, a visa may be required in order to teach in particular countries.  It is important to research what different types of visas are offered by the country, and which one applies to your situation.  Find out how and when it can be acquired and if there is additional costs charged.  The greater the amount of researched before departure to a foreign land, the easier the transition will be when you start living and teaching.   English For Living will provide you with the information or other resource links necessary for you to do this make your travels successful.

Where can information about other countries be found?

Most countries operate an official site on the Internet that provides wide varieties of information regarding employment laws and other matters.  In addition, there may be an office such as an Embassy or Consulate office in your home country that represents the country you are interested in traveling to.  Such offices can provide very specific and helpful answers to questions you may have.  In the occasion that they cannot answer your questions they can direct you to other useful research resources.

How Do I go About Finding Clients, and how can “They Get a Hold of Me?”

There are a number of ways to find paying students.  One way is to market yourself by handing out your promotional business cards and advertising materials, referring those you contact to your personal ‘EFL’ profile.  [You may order your customized EFL promotional materials with your own contact information anytime to help you market yourself and your personalized EFL website]

Another method to search clients is to use the EFL system to view the profiles of prospective students.  Make sure to email them a link to your own ‘EFL’ profile (your custom website will have the link similar to www.englishforliving.com\sampleinstructor or your alias as an extension to the EFL site).  The easiest way is to let us find them for you.  How?  Every time a prospective client registers for an English program the system searches for the best matched instructors to that client.  When this happens and if you are one of the matches the client can view your profile.  If they like you they select your name and you are notified with the teaching request.

What do I need to start teaching?

You can start teaching right away.  English is in demand in most places around the world.  Teach right in your local area by volunteering to help new immigrants.  This will provide you valuable experience that you need.  If you wish to make an income teaching English, it is suggested that you get some minimum certification.  Check out www.cie.ca for a TESOL Course (Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages).

What do I get for signing up as an instructor now?

By signing up as an instructor with English For Living, you will receive our welcome package by email, that will outline how to use our systems and the many wonderful services associated with it.  Also included with membership, we ask that you fill in the application for membership form and include any of the requested documents.  This will allow us to verify your information and issue you an EFL designation (a formal certificate will be mailed to you) along with a photo membership card.  It is important that you keep these items because of our affiliation with schools in Asia and around the world that are seeking EFL Certified Instructors.

Included in membership is the ability to access our Instructor-client matching services along with all of our programs. By being a registered instructor with EFL, you will be able to issue certification for your clients when they have completed the course.

Where can I teach my students?

It is up to you where you want to instruct your students.  As for suggestions; we recommend using public places like libraries, schools, coffee shops, or parks.  Places such as these usually can be used at no cost.  This may suite you better if you are not comfortable teaching from your own home or going to the students home.  What many have found to work is to work from a home office.  This enables you to set up part of your home into a work environment.  In many places this entitles you for additional tax benefits.  A hint would be to research all your options before making any final arrangements with a client.  One way of teaching that is becoming more popular is using the Internet to conduct your lessons.  All you need for this is any form of speakers and a microphone and a web-cam.  If you have had something that works for you, other than what we mention here, please write us at suggestions@englishforliving.com.

Frequently Asked Questions by Students and Other Clients

How do I know that the instructor will be the right instructor for me?

EFL allows you to search for an instructor that you feel comfortable with.  Our matching works in percentage.  It cross-references your profile with that of the Instructor.  The higher the percentage of match the better qualified that instructor meets your request.  You can browse their personal profiles online and decide which one suits you.  Check for the EFL certified category to verify that EFL has reviewed their online profile and verified their credentials.  You can send out a request for instruction directly to EFL by emailing clientsvs@englishforliving.com.  The instructor can accept or decline instruction.  If they decline, you will have the option of choosing another instructor.  The choice is yours to make.

Are all the instructors qualified to teach me?

All EFL instructors that have full membership with us have been certified with their experiences and credentials verified.  This is to ensure that your instructor is a professional who cares what is being taught.  Please look for the EFL designation as indication of their qualification.  If the Instructor is not listed with a designation, you can request directly to EFL for more information on that Instructor.

Why should I register with English For Living?

By registering with English For Living you have the backing of an organization behind you.  The English that you are being taught by our instructors has been approved for use and will be of benefit to you.  A tracking system allows us to see how you are progressing with your English.  On completion of your course, our instructors will be able to issue you recognized certificates that show you are competent in your skills of English.  The certificates can be verified online by any employer or school.

Will this help me to find employment or advance in my present employment?

Yes, being skilled in another language will always help your current employment.  Knowing good conversational English is very important in the work environment.  Also, learning another language as difficult as English shows that you have the motivation and initiative to advance in your employment.

Other FAQ’s

How is English for Living different?

English for Living is different in that we provide more than just links and information on teaching English.  We are a gathering place where instructors are recognized for their abilities, clients can find instruction, and businesses can find well-qualified people who they can work with.  Our Idea in creating this website is unique, in that it brings all the elements together in one.  We have built in services, which you will find beneficial and will help you advance in either learning or teaching English.

I’m new at teaching!  What kind of support do I get?

English For Living has 24-hour online support.  If you have a question that needs answering, send it to info@englishforliving.com.  One of our managers will be glad to help you.  We believe you deserve the right to be taken care of when you are with us.   Tell us how we can further help you.  This only makes us and you better.

What about if I have never taught before! How can I gain experience?

How does it work?

Gaining experience is only done by real life application.  The key is to get out there and learn.  Many complete a four-year degree but come out not knowing what to do.  We suggest that you find a local organization that does volunteer teaching of English.  This will build up your confidence in teaching.  If you want more information on methods of teaching, we suggest you check our www.cie.ca, and take courses such as TESOL.
